PLAN
Erected in 1817, Fanad Lighthouse guards the entrance to Lough Swilly and stands proudly on a rocky promontory whilst over a hundred feet below the sea crashes spectacularly onto the rocks.
Visitors can take a guided tour of the facility and can even enjoy a stay in the fantastic self-catering accommodation in one of the most stunning locations in Ireland. To be able to relax in the comfort of the newly renovated lighthouse keepers’ cottages and to sleep over the Wild Atlantic below is an experience that is second to none.
There is an onsite café and shop where you can relax in a scenic setting overlooking the mighty Atlantic below.
For a truly special visit to Fanad Lighthouse, a guided tour experience is a must. All guides are local and can give you an authentic insight into the Fanad peninsula and life at Fanad Lighthouse.
You will learn about the lives of the lighthouse keepers and their families who were stationed here.
There are stories of love and loss, hardship and resilience. Discover how the light itself has changed over the centuries, and how the latest technology has transformed lighthouses.
And, for an exhilarating moment to remember, climb to the top of the tower for spectacular 360 views of North Donegal, the Atlantic and Lough Swilly. With the addition of audio guides, our tour is now available Italian, French, German, Spanish as well as Irish and English.
